Bill is an industry veteran who has been in retail for more than two decades. He is a distinguished and awarded C-suite leader with extensive technology experience. He has served on multiple advisory boards and brings over two decades of commerce technology and leadership experience to FitForCommerce.
Bill was most recently the EVP, President of Digital at Barnes & Noble. In the absence of a CEO, he served for 14 months as one of three members of an Executive Committee that was tasked by the Chairman and Board with managing company operations and making all strategy, capital investment, marketing/media, product, real estate, and policy decisions. He joined Barnes & Noble as the CIO where he led their digital transformation, modernizing business systems and infrastructure. He was promoted to CDO, taking full P&L responsibility for four distinct business units (BN.com, Nook, B&N Press and SparkNotes).
Before that, he was the CIO of EZCORP where he crafted a multi-year turn-around plan for the business, including an aligned technology strategy and roadmap. Bill executed the initial phase of technology roadmap, including major ERP upgrade, implementation of Decision Support, Financial Planning, Workforce Management, Master Data Management, Enterprise Service Bus, Unified Messaging and Network/Security infrastructure. Bill was also the VP, CIO of Bass Pro Shops, where he architected an overhaul of the primary ecommerce site (BassPro.com). He also implemented advanced monitoring & management tools, integrated personalization technology, and improved stability by identifying and removing single points of failure in the hardware environment. He also facilitated creation of mobile strategy, developed mobile applications, and launched the company’s initial mobile website.
Prior to that, Bill was the VP, CIO, Supply Chain & Customer Care for Brookstone. He assessed all existing systems and vendor relationships, identified key risks for the Board of Directors. He led the ECP re-platform project and upgraded Human Resources, Warehouse Management and the Corporate Intranet site. In addition, he also implemented new technologies such as Learning Management, Employee Onboarding, Task Management, Merchandising, and Project Management. During his time at Brookstone, he was awarded 2010 Retail CIO of the Year, as presented by RISNews Magazine for the most significant impact on a retail organization in the first year of tenure. Bill has also held positions at Dollar General, Lamrite West, Revco Drug Stores, and began his career at PetSmart.
Bill has an MBA from Vanderbilt University.
